Three major highways — Interstate 93, U.S. Route 1, and Route 3 — converge at the Braintree Split. Just 10 miles south of Boston’s Logan International Airport, it’s also home to Massport’s Logan Express, a shuttle bus with a commuter parking lot: The Logan Express Park & Fly. Until recently, however, the sign that advertised this commuter lot badly needed replacing. Rusted and broken, with burnt-out bulbs, the old sign did nothing to call attention to this critical business. The refurbishment of this high profile sign was a key objective of Massport’s CEO, Lisa Wieland. The Project Management team from Edward Paige Corp reached out to Metro Sign in early March with a request for proposal (RFP). Within a week, Metro’s
We’ve enjoyed working with Fitchburg State University (FSU) for several years, and we sincerely appreciate the ongoing relationship we have with university officials and staff. From a clean, easy-to-read design to ensuring the perfect color match for that famous Fitchburg green to producing signs and finishes that are as durable as can be for the many outdoor wayfinding signs, virtually every member of our team has played a part in improving campus signage. Multi-tasking Wayfinding Signage Like all signage projects, wayfinding is advertising – but more than that, it must satisfy many different criteria. In addition to being visually appealing and brand-enhancing, wayfinding signage in particular must be functional – for someone unfamiliar with the area, clear directional signage can
You don’t want ANYONE to overlook your business signage. But it may be so familiar to you that you barely notice it – and you could be losing business because of that. It’s time to take a fresh look and pay attention to what your sign says about your business. Attractive signs get customers to come in and spend There are two ways to consider your signage with fresh eyes. First, from a “what you see” standpoint. Is it as big, bright, and bold as it needs to be? If other businesses have grown up around yours, your sign may have gotten lost in the mix. For example, if you’re the restaurant everyone refers to as “by the hardware store,”
Each year in April, Earth Day gets a lot of attention. But when the activities are over, it’s easy to forget about our intentions to reduce our businesses’ impact on our environment. For years, Metro Sign & Awning has worked with its clients to create high-impact signage while minimizing its impact on the earth and maximizing our customers’ return on investment. (In fact, we wrote a whole white paper about it; take a look – it’s free!) Below, we share three of the guiding principles we follow, on Earth Day and every day. 1. Materials Matter Plastic is the new wood! It’s something we’ve been telling our clients for a long time. We’ve gone to historical committee and zoning board meetings on behalf of our clients to explain – and
That’s a Refreshing Sign! New Balance Leaves Footprint on Parks Now we can say we left our footprint along the Charles River! Well, not our footprint, exactly – it’s actually the mark of Brighton’s favorite shoe manufacturer. We were absolutely tickled when New Balance asked us to create a few “footprints” for some of the water fountains they’ve provided to various Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation park sites. While New Balance wasn’t angling for extra outdoor advertising when the company donated the fountains, it was important that the signs look good and hold up extremely well in the environment. Even though the footprints weren’t designed to advertise the company, they had to represent the company and its brand in the
Wow, summer is flying by. We’re gearing up for some fun school projects (more on that later), just wrapped up a couple of wayfinding projects, and are doing more conceptual design work for some of our valued partners. We know you’re busy too, but we remind you that summer and fall are the best times to schedule routine maintenance or to have us out to inspect your exterior signage and discuss any updates you might want to make before the back-to-school and holiday seasons arrive. (Did you have storm damage that should be addressed?) Call us at (978) 851-2424 to maximize your sign investment and ensure your signage is safe, secure, and in good working order. >Beep beep< Oh, and
