Interior Signage, Others, Sign Design, Signage Tips

Interior signage is a complex animal. One part interior design, one part marketing, one part pure function… with equal parts art and creativity, budget-sensitivity, building ordinances and regulatory compliance.

We field a lot of questions about interior signage – many related to ADA regulations and building codes, others about branding, longevity of materials, and ROI. Below, some of the most popular posts and tips on interior signage from 2016.

If you have an interior branding, POS, wayfinding, or other signage project coming in 2017, take a look at some of these interior sign examples, or contact us directly with your questions. We’re happy to help you tame your complex interior signage “animals!”

Tips and descriptions of some related Boston-area sign projects are linked below. Questions? Don’t hesitate to call us at 978.319.6558.

1. ADA Signage Can Be Beautiful.

We work with many residential and commercial building projects to ensure their ADA signage is not only compliant and useful, but also that it’s a beautiful (and long-lasting) element of the interior design. More examples can be viewed in our video post on the West of Chestnut project, where we handled both exterior and interior signage, including directional and ADA signage.

Not sure your ADA signage is compliant? Contact us with questions.

2. Good Graphics Get the Job Done, Inside & Out

Graphics are popping up indoors and out, reinforcing visual branding and in many cases serving as helpful point-of-sale (POS) signage. New, bold, long-lasting vinyl graphics can be found in commercial buildings, from floor to ceiling, up the wall and out the door.

Extra: watch a video featuring the installation of some vinyl graphics inside a corporate headquarters location.

3. Creative Use of Interior Signage Materials

Smart sourcing of materials gave St. Marks School an advantage – in terms of budget and beauty – when it came to designing a special, donor-recognition plaque. While this post focuses largely on design technique and materials, it also illustrates how well interior signage can echo architectural elements outside the building, effectively continuing the visual impression of the building’s exterior, and reflecting or reinforcing those visuals in the interior.
